Review for The National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Washington, DC, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I feel NSCS is a platform for students to create success on. The organization provides tools, guidance, membership benefits, alumni support, and more for 2- and 4-year students as well as graduate students and alumni. Like many endeavors in life, NSCS is and can be as much of what someone puts into it. Those who take the time to understand NSCS, become leaders, serve the community, apply for scholarships, utilize Member Benefits -- those who see it as more than an additional title and line of recognition on a resume -- are those more likely to reap the maximum benefits of NSCS membership.

I was recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship from NSCS in the form of the NSCS Integrity Award. My previous advisor/Honors Director, Kathleen King, was also awarded this amount, as I nominated her. Additionally, the other nominator, Monica Naranjo, was awarded $1,000. That's $3,000 total of significant scholarship for two students and one educator. Kathleen (educator), has detailed her intentions of using the award to fund a honors conference trip for students to attend, present, and moderate.

I have witnessed tremendous change and positive development within the Board and organization since when I first became a member in the spring of 2015 to now, as the current Vice President of the 2017-18 NSCS National Leadership Council (NLC).

It is because of my experience as the NSCS Vice President of Community Service at Hillsborough Community College and because of my experience as the VP of the NLC that I have gained valuable tools, insight, and skills I now apply at my positions as the Program Coordinator of my local NAACP, and a coordinator at another local nonprofit. Community organizing and event planning were key traits in my ability to receive both positions, and key aspects of my initial role as VP of Community Service at HCC.

I am deeply thankful for the guidance and opportunities NSCS has provided me and continues to provide me and numerous other students, educators, and alumni.
