I volunteered at the Soi dog foundation for a few days whilst I was in Thailand for a 2 week holiday with my partner.

This was my first time doing any form of voluntary work and I went into it not knowing what to expect.

I am so glad I did it, as it was one of the most rewarding things I could have done and one of the highlights of my stay in phuket.

We stayed in accommodation recommended by Soi dog in Naiyang Beach, where they will pick you up in the morning and drop you off back along with other volunteers.

The staff and other volunteers were so friendly and accomodating during our time. You are made to feel very welcomed and you can tell they definitely appreciate the help.

The introductory tour was very informative and helpful for your time there.

The majority of the volunteering involved socialising and walking the the dogs at the organisation. It was a bit daunting at first when you are assigned a pen with a group of dogs to look after but with the help of the staff and keepers it was such a great experience. You soon get to know each of the individual characters amongst the dogs and you will definitely come away with a favourite.

There is a lake area to walk the dogs and there are plenty of doggy bags and bins around. You can take your dogs into free run areas to let your dogs have a run around.

You can also go socialise with the cats during your lunch breaks and after you've finished your dog walks.

You also have the opportunity to meet other like minded people who are also volunteering. Most of the volunteers tend to stay around naiyang beach so it was great to meet in the evenings for food and drinks.

I would strongly recommend the Soi dog foundation to volunteer if you visit phuket.
