I've had some close calls with friends contemplating suicide in the past, and I'd heard about IMAlive and how much people seem to have been helped by reaching out to them. When the opportunity presented itself through Random Acts to volunteer, I did. The training was very thorough and the supervisors were knowledgeable, friendly, and encouraging. They are always willing to talk to you, answer questions, and help you work through anything. I became certified over a month ago and now actively serve on Crisis Chats. The service is very client-oriented and the shift supervisors are fantastic and helpful. Even though it may not be much (scheduling shifts around a full-time job is a challenge), I am inspired to help as often as I can in the hopes of making some small difference to someone who needs it.
