Review for Assistance League of Las Vegas, Las Vegas, NV, USA
I am a retired eye surgeon, and a long time member of Desert Sage, the evening part of Las Vegas Assistance League. We aid kids on many ways, one of which is Operation School Bell.
We clothe needy kids referred by school teachers, with shoes, underwear, shirts, pants, jackets, school supplies, etc. We have a big
store, and members let the kids choose. Often, these are the first
new clothes student has. We have
many projects, such as Shadow Buddies, where we provide show
and tell dolls, matched to the patient.
This allows the cancer specialists to
show the kid what is going on, and the
kid to show his classmates. It allows the ill kid to have a pal to accompany him.
We also have written about twenty
kid's books, in Spanish and English, for
five and six year olds to own, and read
with their parents. I wrote one of them, about my dachshund, Max. They are fun to read, and are on easy topics.
We have so many good projects, it
is hard to mention them all.
