Review for Ambassadors Of Hope And Opportunity Project, Mill Valley, CA, USA
I am proud to be long time member of the AHO family and Council of Investors. I have seen first hand the amazing transformations AHO has facilitated through their unique program model and culture of working with homeless youth. AHO is a true Role Model for other organizations locally and nation wide that are working with marginalized and homeless youth. At AHO, youth stay involved with the new youth that come on board through the AHO Youth Team projects where youth choose to "give back" for the help AHO has provided.
In Marin, AHO is the only nonprofit providing a comprehensive, personalized safety net for young people ages 18 to 25 who are homeless or at-risk of becoming homeless. These are young people who are NOT mentally ill, nor have they been in the foster care system so there are no funding streams to help them. They come from families of abuse, neglect and addiction who do not have the capacity to parent. AHO is their only hope.
For the past 14 years, AHO has been a leader spearheading this growing issue and has recently been nominated for the 2018 Heart of Marin Award in Innovation by the President of College of Marin. The Founder received the 2017 Marin Women's Hall of Fame Award in the area of Social Change.
The AHO program model has served over 1,750 young people with housing, jobs, major and minor dental care, counseling and everything a parent might help with. AHO's 112-member Alliance for Youth service partner network of businesses, faith communities, individuals and professional assist AHO to provide the comprehensive and personalized "whole person" support for up to 5 years or whatever it takes so that youth have the support to reach their educational and personal goals.
AHO's success is demonstrated in the young people it serves who once homeless, are now in stable housing with the support of AHO, working several jobs, completing their educations and achieving their life goals. Most youth are at College of Marin, however, many others have graduated from 4 year schools which include, but not limited to, UC Berkeley, UC San Diego, Portland University and Loyola University. come back after graduating to continue to support the AHO mission to help other youth who are homeless like they once were.
