Review for ZERO Prostate Cancer, Alexandria, VA, USA
In May of 2013 I heard three words that no one wants to hear, but I did hear "You have cancer"! Prostate Cancer to be exact. Like Father, like son, or so I would soon learn that I had joined nearly 40% of all Prostate Cancer sufferers by having a family history. I was shocked, angry, then depressed all at the same time. So I started to research what to do. One of the 1st things I found was a way to involved & help end this disease. I found ZERO the End of Prostate Cancer. They were putting on a 5/10K race in Cincinnati where I live. I signed up before I even decided on my next step. That race helped me become involved. Involved with ZERO. Involved with hundreds of other patients, caregivers and family members who have been affected by this cancer.
ZERO, the staff at ZERO and my fellow advocates all have the same goal, end this disease, stop men from dying from Prostate Cancer. Around 27,000 men will die this year just in the US. There is progress being made and ZERO is a huge part of making that happen. We advocate for research funding in the House and Senate which makes a difference in the amount of research dollars are allocated specifically for out of the box research on finding a cure or treatments for Prostate Cancer. Those dollars are having an impact Several treatments and diagnostic tools have come from that research in the last five years.
ZERO as a non-profit is one of the highest rated in the country. Thousands of men who would not have been tested for this disease have been tested as a result of awareness & testing programs sponsored by ZERO. Men with Prostate Cancer have had their treatments paid for literally saving their lives using funds provided by ZERO. Countless lives and families have been positively impacted by the tests and treatments. Early detection is vital for survival.
I am proud to serve along other patients, survivors, caregivers, and family members as a ZERO the End of Prostate Cancer volunteer and advocate for millions of men throughout the country. ZERO makes a difference in Men's lives.
