Review for WeSPARK Cancer Support Center, Sherman Oaks, CA, USA
I began as a facilitator some years ago. Wendie Jo was active at weSPARK at that time and generated the “spark” in weSPARK. Cancer and laughter, on the face of it, should be in opposition. Not so in the hallowed and cozy weSPARK. Perhaps a little background would give the reader some context. When I was nineteen years old, I lost my mother to cancer. At that time in our history, cancer was a big family secret. “Polite people” handled things, even teenage girls. There were no family support groups. One toughed it out and got on with it. Imagine my delight to find, “as an adult” a place where I could give the thing I had wanted most. Nancy Allen’s insight into how best to showcase the needs of the guests was part of Wendi Jo’s vision. Nancy brought that vision to life as Creative Director. What I get from the guests is far more than I give. Thank you weSPARK staff.
