Review for Second Wind Fund, Denver, CO, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Imagine that your child, your nephew, your granddaughter, suddenly ended his or her life. As hard as you may try, and as empathetic as you may be, you cannot imagine the pain unless it has happened to you! No child should be gone before his Mom and Dad, especially by their own hand. A wonderful mother and personal friend had this happen. Her son was a good kid. He and his Mom enjoyed many happy experiences together. One day he was gone, by his own hand. Nobody to this day knows why. I suspect he had pain he did not want to burden his mother with. I speculate that there were no personal acquaintances he felt he could share his misgivings with. But suspicions and speculations are of little use.... because he is gone. If there had been counseling such as SWF provides access to, this young man would likely be a person who got past the troubles he thought were insurmountable. We will never know, but we do know that the young people who HAVE found a knowledgable and sympathetic ear through SWF are still alive! Help!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Only vicariously through the stories of others who mhave been more intimately involved.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Expand their reach, especially troughout Colorado, where inexplicably, teen suicide is the highest of any state.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Knowing the good they achieve.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Dedicated

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Increase their area of influence. Save more kids!

Ways to make it better...

I had more time to devote to the cause.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Obtaining the resources to increase their reach.

One thing I'd also say is that...

Too many young people continue to think their particular situation is hopeless. Good professional counseling turns hopelessness into a recognition that we all have doubts and problems, and that they can be overcome.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every month

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2010

Role:  Donor & Supported fundraising efforts.
