Review for WeSPARK Cancer Support Center, Sherman Oaks, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

When I was diagnosed with melanoma, a friend recommended WeSpark to me. From the moment I walked through the little zen garden surrounding the back entrance, I knew I had found a special place. I felt so supported there. I went to yoga, to a creative writing class, and discussion groups. I received energy work and chi gong. I checked out books from the library. And most of all, I was able to talk with other people going through similar things. And all of this was free. The people there are so supportive and loving. I cannot speak highly enough of WeSpark.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The classes and serviced they offer.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

offer a creative writing class in the late afternoon or evening for those of us who work during the day.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

how supportive everyone who worked there was. They helped me trust in goodness and get through a very difficult time.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

loving, dedicated, wise, helpful, generous, funny.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

offer more services. Maybe open another center.

Ways to make it better...

the creative writing group met in the afternoon or evening. Once I recovered and went back to work, I had to give up this group. There are plenty of activities offered in the evening, but not creative writing.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Probably funding because they charge nothing for their services.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I feel a great debt of gratitude to WeSpark. They helped me through a very difficult time in my life with so much love and support that it made the experience a beautiful, life giving one instead of one filled with just pain and fear.
