Review for Assistance League of Kansas City, Gladstone, MO, USA
As a volunteer with Assistance League of Kansas City for over thirty years, I have seen a small group of women in the Northland who were committed to helping meet the needs of their community, grow to over 350 volunteers dedicated to enriching the community by helping its residents from birth to super seniors.
All of ALKC's programs from Operation School Bell which clothes nearly 3000 needy area school children yearly, to Senior Outreach Service that provides friendship and support to residents of Northland senior care centers, reach people who truly need ALKC members' help.
One program unique to Assistance League of Kansas City is Operation Child in Need. This program answers the needs of children from birth to twenty-one, whose families are in crisis and are not able to fulfill the needs of their children. The individual children, who are referred by school counselors or social workers, may receive clothing, eye glasses, medical equipment, or tubs to store their clothing. Babies may receive portable cribs, so they can come home from the hospital, students receive costumes for performing in a show choir, work clothes, rental for musical instruments, a weight vest to calm a child with autism, or fees to participate in sports. Operation Child in Need strives to help children have life experiences more like their peers.
For many Assistance League members, serving our community through this organization is a life long commitment. We can actually see the difference ALKC programs are making in the lives of people living around us.
