I have participated in Achilles events as a volunteer, and I can attest to the professionalism of the organization and the profound positive effect it has on those living with a wide range of disabilities. This organization distinguishes itself by breaking down barriers and highlighting the abilities and potential of members, and integrates them into mainstream athletics. The therapeutic value physically, mentally and spiritually is immediately evident among the participants. Handicapped athletes are not treated as "special" or "different", but the same as all other athletes. For many, this is a unique and uplifting experience.
