Review for Center for Advancement in Cancer Education, Richboro, PA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I was diagnosed with cancer and wanted to locate information and support to guide the stress filled journey. CACE was a wonderful resource because of their whole patient approach. They live the reality that cancer is a word not a sentence. Their key role is education for the reality of today with a hopefilled education for healthy tomorrows. CACE has a two-fold mission of support through diagnosis and prevention.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Life changing education that has yielded high quality of life and obviously I am still here!! I am convinced the nutritional component of cancer is SO overlooked!!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

suggest they see client/patients without pressuring for "membership fees" up front. Whether you call it payment or membership the reality was it was demanded at a time a person feels desperate. What if I couldn't pay?

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The exceptional education! They gave me information on protecting my kidneys about 2 years before the FDA caught up. Docs said they were 'crazy'...turns out they were just ahead of the pack. I healed rapidly/perfectly with their help!

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

on a mission, intense, extraordinarily well educated on the matters at hand.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Provide prevention outreach. The reality is that I would have been best served had I been educated to prevent rather than support treatment plan. Hippocretes was right: Let thy food be thy medicine! I am living proof it can be treatment.

Ways to make it better...

They would have seen me without the $$ pressure and if the staff consult had a more gentle approach while patient catches up to what CACE knows for sure.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

funding, funding, funding which I am sure explains the approach I experienced. I find I support with $$ the places I know don't pressure patients for funds and those I, by experience, know helped without pressure for $$. Too many don't have!

One thing I'd also say is that...

Susan Silberstein does CMEs for physicians and nurses, travels to educate the public and truely cares about advancing cancer education for the whole person. She is not seeing tumors, she is reaching out to people. Your knife and fork are key to health!

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every six months

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2009

Role:  Client Served & was diagnosed with cancer and sought information and support.
