Review for Keep Kids Alive Drive 25, Omaha, NE, USA
I was driving in Florissant, Missouri, and thought I knew the directions to my destination. I turned the wrong direction on a major thoroughfare, didn't realize the mistake for MANY miles, then had to turn around and try to find the correct street to turn off onto--I even blew that one, turning into-and then having to U-turn out of--a dead end. I was late and getting a bit frantic...finally I saw a street sign that was familiar and quickly turned onto that street. Then I saw it: that familiar sign, "Keep kids alive Drive 25" with the silhouette of a child playing. Suddenly, I realized that, for that moment-and the entire drive-my focus needs NOT to be on how late I am or how many mistakes I've made in directions-no, that sign reminded me that my focus needed to be on driving safely and calmly to my destination no matter how late I might be. That sign reminded me that my own welfare and that of other drivers and folks in the neighborhood depended on me and the way I was driving. That was six years ago, but the lesson of that "snap-to-attention" moment sticks with me to this day.
