Review for Mojave Environmental Education Consortium, Victorville, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

MEEC is an amazing support and resource for teachers! They offer workshops on a variety of environmental issues and even feed us dinner! Often a whole class set of materials is included so we can teach the topic in our classrooms without any out of pocket costs. MEEC is generous with their grants for transportation costs for field trips, class projects, and gardening projects. I have been awarded microscopes and magnifying glasses for my classroom as well as money for a butterfly garden and a vegetable garden. Students are also challenged to write essays about environmental topics and MEEC rewards them with cash prizes. We are extremely fortunate to have an organization like MEEC in the high desert! Everyone in the education field should check them out and get on their mailing list.

Teachers are spoiled by MEEC in so many ways! Environmental workshops are offered frequently and provide classroom curriculum and all the materials we need to do projects with our students. One of our favorites was making our own toothpaste in second grade! The MEEC Program Specialist even came to our school to do a presentation on The Mojave Watershed with all of our classes. MEEC offers grants for field trip transportation costs, special environmental projects, and school gardens! We were awarded a grant to transform a water guzzling grassy area into a serene, drought tolerant, butterfly garden. MEEC also supports our vegetable garden with drip irrigation and gardening supplies. MEEC paid for our class field trip to Devil's Punchbowl Natural Area where we learned about the incredible rock formations and desert life from the park rangers and from our hike down to the creek. MEEC also provided solar ovens, rocks and minerals collections, backpacks, microscopes and much more for our classroom. Students love to zoom in on miniscule objects under the microscopes, the fly leg and butterfly wing get a lot of oohs and ahhs. MEEC is a huge resource and support for teachers and environmental education. If you're not on their mailing list you are missing out- get connected ASAP!
