Review for Military Association of Atheists & Freethinkers, Washington, DC, USA
In 2013, I was about to start basic training with the USAF. I emailed MAAF, worried that if I didn't attend church, I would be given extra duty. What followed was a chain of events leading to the creation of Humanist Services at Lackland. Jason Torpy reached out to local volunteers and together, they were able to provide services that now benefit about 1,000 trainees every week. I can't ever thank MAAF enough for what they've done, providing a space for Humanists in the military, and helping so many young people find a place they can feel at home.
