Review for Medical Students for Choice, Philadelphia, PA, USA
Medical Student for Choice is the only organization that aims to educate medical students about reproductive rights and give future physicians the tools they need to help their patients. Too many medical schools lack sufficient training about abortion services, contraceptive methods, pregnancy counseling, and issues related to reproductive rights and access. MSFC fill this void by organizing clinical trainings, hosts panels of experts, encourage local school chapters to raise awareness among their students, and so much more. Because reproductive health is an often-avoided issue, fewer and fewer physicians are providing these necessary medical services. MSFC's work is important to ensure our daughters receive complete healthcare in the future.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
Prior to medical school, I never considered becoming an abortion provider. By learning about the issues surrounding reproductive health through MSFC, I've learned how important it is for physicians to educate, empower and respect our patients.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Increase their budget. :-) Like many non-profits across the nation, money can be tight, but everyone at MSFC does the best they can!
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
Gaining insight into the world of reproductive health and patient care. I would have otherwise not learned any of this information through my medical school - and it's so important for our future patients!
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
Absolutely wonderful! Very well organized, efficient at staying connected, timely responses to requests for help...most importantly, they were always positive and truly believed the MSFC mission.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
Reach out to medical schools that don't have ANY reproductive education or MSFC chapters and encourage student leaders. Also, provide more resources to the current chapters for hands-on training, guest speakers, etc.
Ways to make it better...
My experience has always been fantastic!
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
Like with any non-profit organization, budget issues are a problem. They have had to reduce staff, but I know they try to manage cuts so it does not terribly affect direct student education.
One thing I'd also say is that...
While abortion can be a politicized issue, it is ultimately a medical issue. It's about providing quality care that values our patients' health, wellness and autonomy. MSFC recognizes the importance of future abortion providers.
