Review for House Rabbit Society Of Chicago, Winfield, IL, USA
It's after midnight, and a young woman (I'll call her Angel) is driving home. The headlights catch a white blur on the side of the road that Angel thinks may be a domestic rabbit. She gets a pet carrier from her trunk (because, of course, that's what an HRS foster mom/volunteer has in the trunk of her car) and goes looking for the animal. She finds a large white & black rabbit with it's left leg just hanging there with such a deep gash, she can see bone. Angel takes the rabbit home where she gives him food & water, and spends hours removing each and every maggot with a tweezers from the rabbit's leg. Angel names the rabbit "Wilder" after her favorite actor Gene Wilder. HRS and Angel take Wilder to their vet and Wilder had his leg and part of his tail amputated. He also had a broken pelvis. Angel and HRS nurse Wilder back to health and began looking for Wilder's forever home, right about the time we were looking to adopt a special rabbit. Fast-forward to today, when Wilder (now "Chester") has been in his forever home for about 5 months. He has a roommate named "Scooter" who has a broken leg, so he understands what being special is all about. Chester's days are spent exploring under the kitchen table, running along carpet runners (think Project Rabbitway), and laying by the window. Chester has heard most noises by now, but can still be a little skittish. This doesn't stop him from enjoying ear massages, head rubs, and running around in circles when he hears the lettuce bag come out of the fridge. Thank you, House rabbit Society for all you have done for Chester. Thank you, Angel, for saving Chester and sharing him with us.
