Review for New Directions Career Center, Columbus, OH, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I have been a guest speaker for this program since January 1999. As a professional speaker, I motivate and inspire the women to cope with change and deal with their adversities. I also encourage them to continue their education as they work towards their careers. The class sizes are small and the women seem to bond strongly in a short period of time together. Based on their interaction in class, they are supportive of one another and sympathetic to the problems of their classmates. Occasionally one of the women that was in my class will come up to me in the community and say hello. I am always pleased to know that their life situation is better than when I first met them in class. The people who ask me to speak to the classes are very professional. They are also protective of the privacy of each person in the class. During class discussions, the students share what they have focused on in the various class sessions and refer to their resources given to them in the class. They have a "can do" spirit and a sense that life will be easier in the days ahead. They have always spoken highly of this program and are grateful that they could be a part of it.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

witnessing graduates of the class who are now successfully employed in the community and happy with their life.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Expand the class size.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

a sense when I leave the class that I have in some way encouraged, motivated or inspired a woman to take back her life.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

very professional and interested in helping the women to succeed.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

expand its programming and serve more women and expand to serving men. This organization needs a new and large facility and more staff if funding were available.

Ways to make it better...

there were more women in the class.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

funding.

One thing I'd also say is that...

over the past eleven years that I have volunteered to be a guest speaker in class, I have always been respected and appreciated.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every six months

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2009
