Review for The Humane Society of the United States, Washington, DC, USA

Rating: 1 stars

HSUS is a lobbying organization. By their own admission they do not care for any of the puppies and kitties that appear in their ads asking for donations. Their antics in the wake of Hurricane Katrina are will known in the sheltering community - they were good for a photo op and not much else. This is a vegan, animal rights group that does very little to help actual animals.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

HSUS has raised money to allegedly help a certain animal or group of animals and then not send the animal's caretakers any of the money they raised. They are still using dogs who have since died in their current fundraising claiming they are alive/happy.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Change their advertising. Show no images of sad and injured animals. Show what they really do which is lobbying, and writing laws. I would more accurately show that they are an animal rights group - not interested in animal welfare so much.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Nothing.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Pretty useless.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

It has far more than that. If it was willing to spend $10mil on actual animal care they could make a huge difference. They chose not to.

Ways to make it better...

They had been honest.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Lack of credibility.

One thing I'd also say is that...

They put far more money in their executive pension plans then they spend in day to day animal care.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2000
