Review for Days for Girls International , Mt. Vernon, WA, USA
3 years ago, I went to my first puberty class. After class, I asked my Mom, "What do women and girls do if they can't afford to buy these?" meaning tampons and pads. She didn't have an answer. I wanted to make little bags of pads to give away to the homeless. We researched a lot and found out that there wasn't anyone doing this for the girls. We also found out that we had almost 200 homeless girls in our school district who didn't have the hygiene products they needed to attend school or to participate confidently. My Mom came across an organization called Days for Girls. We wanted to help the homeless girls in our community, so we started a local Edmonds WA Chapter together. A month later, we were able to make the washable pads/ kits and give them to the girls. We haven't stopped sewing and my Girls Who Care Club even put on a dessert auction fundraiser a few years ago to help raise money for them. We raised almost $10,000. It is really great to be able to give back to other girls.
