No one knows what is going to happen in future. Life is indeed unpredictable. You never know what if your dreams would come true or they would be shattered any moment. Well, the live example of this was seen when the disastrous GorkhaEarthquake struck Nepal in 2015. It destroyed lives of many. Mausami, who aimed to serve a noble humanitarian cause didn’t wait and gave all her heart and soul to help those who were in need.
A medical professional at the Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, Mausami is bestowed with the love of two gifted children and a supportive husband; life had given Mausami Shrestha all she could wish for. Born in Chitwan, Nepal, Mausami migrated to the United States of America in 1996. Since then, she had been proactively participated in community programs and initiatives.
She always believed in helping the ones who were in need and was doing her bit for Nepal’s underprivileged section as well. However, her initiatives till that day were limited to personal donations and contributions. But, the earthquake and the wreckage, which her whole family witnessed first-hand while on a visit to Nepal, cemented her will to make a greater contribution by connecting with like-minded individuals and organizations.
Mausami and her family were visiting Nepal to meet their extended family when the Himalayan nation faced one of the worst natural calamities in its history. The family survived the shock and the countless aftershocks that flattened cities and private and public infrastructures. The dreadful GorkhaEarthquake had left hundreds and thousands homeless and elicited the nastiest humanitarian crisis in the nation’s modern history.
Everything was affected in the nation due to earthquake. There were landslides, and more inundations, which further obstructed the efforts of the relief agencies that were working their heart out to reach out to the victims. People were without the basic amenities like food, water and even medicine. After battling the same kind of horror with her family in Kathmandu, Mausamireturned to Dallas with prayers in heart for all the victims.
But, the Gorkha Earthquake changed Mausami as a person, and for better. Hence, she worked harder towards her dream, which gave rise to the fundraising with the Holding Hands Campaign. During this time, she got connected with other social organigations as well, which included Nyanopan, Narayan GarhLady Jaycess and ManavSewa. She raised funds for Quake affected School Shree Rashtriya Primary SchoolVharlang-1, Jugedi, Chitwan, Nepal,Shrijanshil Child Welfare, an orphanage in Bhaktapur, and Funds for Destitute Home, ManabsewaAshram, chitwan. In addition to it, she also contributed personally by donating, which has aided in re-establishing a library in Balkumari Secondary High School, Chitwan.
Whilst working on these projects, she realized that she could support these and other projects in a better way through an organization solely-dedicated to the child welfare. Her idea received huge support from like-minded people as well as fromher family. Therefore, in December of 2015, Nepal Journey was established with the Mausami and her team. The vision of Nepal Journey was to become an organization that represents the passion of humanitarianism and selfless social service in Nepal. And it succeeded to become so.
The team continues to make small yet significant contributions in shaping better futures for underprivileged children in Nepal.
