Over a year ago I decided to quit drinking and found it quite difficult. After a month of working on my own, I sought out some help and found SMART Recovery. Their 4-Point program seemed to cover all the bases, and their empowering, science-based approach was deeply appealing. A year later, I can attest to the efficacy of the program and the value of the organization. It is run almost entirely by volunteers -- mostly non-professionals -- who undergo training in the organization's principles, tools and methods. SMART's mutual self help approach can work whatever the addictive behavior one is trying to change. SMART empowers individuals to free themselves from addictive behaviors and regain a rewarding life. Does it work? It certainly did for me and countless others.
