I personally gravitated to SMART as an alternative to AA given that I'm not very religious. What I found was remarkable. It was my first exposure to a recovery program and I was thoroughly pleased to find that it was based in scientific fact. With a foundation in cognitive behavioral therapy, SMART taught me to reframe the way I think and perceive my reality and it has enabled me to be continuously sober for more than 3 years going.
