Justice and Reconciliation Project (JRP) has made a significant improvement in the humanitarian condition in Northern Uganda as the region embarked on the long road to recovery from conflict through supporting programs like commemoration which is part of activities considered to be very crucial in the peace building process. Taking one example of Lukodi a village in Punena Parish, Bungatira Sub County, Gulu District where commemoration takes place on 19th, May every year. Justice and Reconciliation Project together with the Acholi religious, cultural and local government leaders have advocated for traditionally-based ritual processes for war-related justice, reconciliation, and reintegration, particularly “mato oput”, the ritual climax of an Acholi justice process bringing reconciliation in the wake of a homicide within the community. And their activity has also help to restore the lost hope among the survivors of the armed conflict in northern Uganda specifically women, men, child mothers and former child soldiers among others by giving voice to their voices.
