Review for Diabetes Research Institute Foundation, Inc., Hollywood, FL, USA
As a research volunteer I was involved in a few programs that assisted scientists studying the effects of diabetes know just how brittle a female who has had the disease since the age of 3 1/2 years old can be. I am 47 now and have helped by giving time and information to the researchers to improve products for those suffering with the disease. My family also was involved with raising money for this organization when I was growing up as well as starting an original chapter that began this foundation in North Miami Beach Florida. Later my Mom gave both time and money when she remarried and my Dad gave time and continues to try to help me live as productive and healthy a life as possible with the disease at this point. Please know for those who can do it with the disease it takes much effort on the part of parents and the medical community as well as the child who must learn to cope with all kinds of situations on their own. It takes so much that all we can ask for is help from the community to try to combat this disease and make it better for all.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
Better technology and better care with better trained endocrinologists.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Get more help from the community in terms of money and hands on to make the lives of those with the disease easier. I would also love to see a cure but understand that it is being worked on it just cannot be fast enough for those living with it.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
Growing up helping a greater cause effort.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
Kind and motivating.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
Possibly find a cure faster and definitely improve technologies to assist most living with the disease.
Ways to make it better...
There was a cure.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
People aging with the disease and a lack of understanding from the community to help those living with it or suffering from it.
One thing I'd also say is that...
The disease is tough no matter how you slice it. It needs help and the people deserve the help who are coping with it.
How frequently have you been involved with the organization?
About once a year
