As a new Board member for the Eaton County Humane Society, I have been impressed by several things. The first is a very thoughtful and direct approach to adding new Board members. The Humane Society Board has recently undergone some changes and has taken this opportunity to refocus the organization. In doing that, potential Board members have been recruited that can add value to the organization through their expertise. The second comment reflects the success of hiring of a new director who has the experience, confidence and enthusiasm to bring about shelter improvements and manage the shelter according to successful, national standards of care. The number of new programs, fund raising activities, volunteer recruitment and facility improvements that have taken place in just a short time is astonishing. Finally, I would like to comment on the care of the animals that is reflected by love and devotion shown by each staff member and volunteer. The facility itself is spotless with a free-roaming cat room and outdoor kennels to provide ample enrichment and exercise opportunities. The excitement and attached social media notices when an animal finds their "forever" home is infectious. The amount of work to make all of this happen often goes unnoticed. However, the animals and the community are lucky to have the Eaton County Humane Society to assist and care for the animals that cross its path.
