Review for Community Link, Saginaw, TX, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Coconuts were one of the fresh fruits offered to clients one day. I was amused, not knowing how I would even open one, as I read the grocery list to my first client. A woman, almost 80 years young, was about to select items to feed herself for the next month, and she giggled like a child while choosing a coconut. I asked how she knew how to open them, and she told me her story. As a child, growing up in the Philippines, it was her job to climb the coconut palms and bring down the coconuts for her family. Her story unfolded one block from the iconic Saginaw silos storing grain for bread to feed families.
This is just one amazing story that I have been privileged to hear as I weekly interview clients at the Community Link food pantry. We are the largest food pantry serving NW Tarrant County, including 7 zip codes with 9 municipalities. I support Community Link because we serve people: veterans, homeless, single parents, grandparents raising grandchildren, unemployed, disabled persons, seniors, teens and children. People live in apartments, houses, mobile homes, cars, in relatives and strangers homes, and in low-income housing. Men and women, who have lost their jobs or health, have wept at my desk, as we filled out the paperwork for assistance because they never imagined asking for anything, yet their families are hungry. Thankfulness is expressed weekly by multiple clients for the quality of products and care they receive from staff and volunteers.
This agency offers hope, respect, compassion, and sustanance to people navigating the trials and joys of their lives. I am honored to serve in the ministry of Community Link.
