Review for Desert AIDS Project, Palm Springs, CA, USA
I recently was asked to leave the organization after I questeioned a form letter requesting re-certification for Ryan White Funding. I explained in a not so gentle manner that all documentation had been submitted a few weeks prior. I also pointed out that other than give referrals the agency has a hands off attitude in regard to all benefits for the most part. I also visited the clinic and was told by the dr :he did not like taking on new patients that I was lucky he was seeing me" This is just one example of many issues the community as a whole has for DAP. With the recent total loss of food voucher's, it seems the agency has outlived its usefulness. The management does no outreach, has ONE AA/substance abuse meeting per week, no peer advocacy (Law suit problem) As a man who has had HIV since 1985, I no longer use DAP, they have no services to offer me. I disagreed with a voice mail, asked to talk to someone about my grievances with no avail. I later received a certified letter telling me I was no longer welcome.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
I would first review the books and see where the money is going. I would like to see more volunteers in the agency. There needs to be some type of outreach for STD's, HEP C, HIV and most important drug abuse.. I would enlist the community instead of al
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
During the early years it held up to its meaning. The past few years It has become a cash cow for the folks who work there.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
I only know of one volunteer position at the front desk, possible when they had a food pantry,
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
Do a lot of good, like public education, a real food program. The entire point of the DAP at conception was to keep ALL service's under one roof.
Ways to make it better...
It had been handled in person, not over the phone, also I should have received some answers for the isssues I presented
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
Financial choices
One thing I'd also say is that...
I really would like a copy of the DAPS budget, Mr See has not returned any phone calls, Today over a month later I get an email that refers me to this web site. I beleive that DAP was built as a model to the rest of the state, NO MORE
