Review for The Cannoli Fund, San Antonio, TX, USA
In 2013 on a visit to San Antonio, I saw a picture of two adorable fluffy blue-eyed kittens who were brother and sister being fostered by a Cannoli volunteer, and even though my husband and I already had cats, I couldn't resist an invitation to meet them in person.
The volunteer told me that when these kittens were found, they were covered with more fleas than any animals she had ever seen, and they both had eye infections, but when she released them from the room where they were confined, I could hardly believe how healthy they looked and acted. Their parents were a blue-eyed white female and a long-haired orange tabby male which meant they were little flame-point kittens. I was hopelessly in love, but my husband still needed convincing.
We drove home, and over a few weeks, he thought about adding to our feline family; of course, I showed him their pictures frequently. We made a donation to help Cannoli and its volunteers while we were considering. Shortly after, a family emergency occurred in the volunteer's family which meant the kittens needed to be adopted immediately along with another unrelated kitten who was being fostered with them. We agreed to take all three with the promise that we would find a suitable home for the other kitten so in January 2014, we met on I10 at the halfway point between San Antonio and Houston and took Harold and Mary, and their little gray tabby "brother" Jaime home.
Of course, forever families know where this is going! We made a brief "faux" effort to find a home for Jaime but called it off because he has the most loving, enchanting personality and truly, is the smartest cat we've ever had!!
Of course, our adult cats did not love the idea of three babies invading their space, but we've made it work.
It is now 2017, and honestly, not a day has passed without laughter at the antics of the three Cannoli kids, and yes, even my husband totally agrees with my favorite quote, "We so lucky!" And you should see Mary put her little pink nose up to daddy for a kiss!! By the way, Jaime was the model for the 2014 Cannoli cat medal!
The Cannoli Fund is an amazing organization since all humane trapping, transporting, and fostering is done by volunteers, all of whom are truly devoted to improving the lives of animals. I urge fellow animal lovers to support these tireless heroes.
