In an impromptu decision to accompany my friend to Indonesia, I experienced a trip of a lifetime! My introduction to the OURF community and its mission began by meeting the passionate people behind it. We witnessed firsthand the amazing job by the OURF locals and volunteers in Bukit Lawang in educating their communities on conservation and the plight of the orangutan. We participated in the various OURF educational programs such as replicating sustainable organic farming techniques at their demplot and teaching the local school children the importance of the orangutan, both of which are making a difference! Seeing the ecosystems of orangutans and the communities plagued by the realities of the palm oil industry with my own eyes confirmed why OURF is so critical to the future there and why I want to continue to be a part of it!
