Our slaughter horse rescue mare, Bohdi, and her 1 month (surprise) old foal, Finnegan, broke out of our paddocks on Saturday 7/21. It was unclear if it was a staged break out or that the horses spooked, but their trail ended in our front yard. My wife and I searched high and low with local neighbors, friends and family, but were in a panic that we couldn't find them within a few hours. We posted on local lost and found pet sites and were referred to SHI as a great resource. We filed the report and within minutes, I was on the phone with Pam who was circulating out flyers, press releases and general information to not only their network, but local news sources. They created us a great Facebook group and tried to help align us with resources to do drone searches, create search parties etc. It took us over 48 hours, but luckily on Monday morning, we received a phone call from a local woman saying she had spotted them at a local farm. I was able to go over, walk up to Bohdi and put on a halter and lead her home. SHI assisted every step of the way with resources, positive words, compassion and dedication to reuniting our horses with us. After helping us assist in finding them, they also provided the ability to get microchips done through them to help prevent this in the future. We are thoroughly impressed and grateful for all of their hard work and for helping in returning our babies to us.
