I first met Dr Julie when my buddy of 40 years, Sambo a 65 year old Blue Front Amazon wasn’t feeling too chipper. Despite ailments which come with old age Dr Julie gave us three more great years together. Not only did she provide great care for Sambo, she did so at very reasonable rates, unlike other vets who were less qualified.
Dr Julie is an Avian Vet and her practice is Strictly For The Birds. Not only does she operate an Avian Vet Service but she runs a Rescue and Adoption Service which is second to none in this region of the country. Her commitment to the birds runs deep. Much of her income goes into the rescue and placement of birds into forever homes while she lives a somewhat frugal life style so she may care for and place needy birds into quality environments with caring people.
I began visiting the rescue room when taking Sambo for his treatments and this is when Baby Rio, a Pineapple Green Cheek Conure adopted me. He was Sambos buddy and is my little buddy and daily helper with birdie chores. He helps clean water bowls and feed his five brothers and sisters every morning before asking for his Swimming Pool on the days he wants to bathe.
I have been adopted by four other birds at Burge Bird Rescue. Lobo a Timneh African Grey, Josie a Blue Crown/ Mitred Conure, Bandit an Severe Macaw And Maya a Blue Front Amazon, all beautiful and healthy kids from Dr Julie’s care.
Burge Bird Rescue not only rescues and rehabs exotic birds but also injured pidgeons and doves, ducks and chicks after Easter, the occasional pheasant or swan and even roosters seized from illegal fighting operations. There are no birds she won’t help !
The efforts of Dr Julie and her Team at Burge Bird Rescue to provide reasonable prices, education, care along with their Love Of Birds have helped many owners and feathered babies live happy and healthy lives together.

Dr Julie Burge and the Staff of Burge Bird Services are the most devoted and compassionate people I have every come in contact with. Their tireless efforts to provide exceptional care to our feathered family members while finding families for the feathered souls who have lost their families are second to none ! I have five little angels who passed through their rescue and into my life and they are my reason for living. I would have never been blessed with my feathered kids without Dr Julie, Nurse Julie and the Team of Burger Bird Services. Thank You !
