An awesome mission experience! Our entire experience was orchestrated to give us the opportunity to experience and learn about the Mayan people while helping to build the House of the Teachers. "The Casa del Maestros" project gave us an opportunity for all members/ages to have meaningful opportunities to contribute to the construction. We were so blessed by the largely Mayan staff, interpreters, construction workers as we communicated with Spanish, English, gestures and smiles. All of our transportation, accommodations, meals and personal needs were taken care of, while allowing us the opportunity to make so many meaningful contributions including our daily guacamole which accompanied every day's lunch. Seeing the Medicial Clinic and hearing about all of the ways Mission Guatemala has served along side the Mayan people as new needs were discovered was inspirational. We were privileged to unload 40,000 pounds of enriched rice from "Pack Away Hunger" from our home state Indiana.
Everything we touched, including an afternoon with local school children, left us feeling that our lives in the United States were overflowing with abundance; while at the same time we were able to share in so many ways with people who taught us what faith and joy truly look like. We raised money for this trip for two years and before we left we scheduled our next trip with Mission Guatemala. May God continue to bless the work and people of Mission Guatemala and those they serve.
