Review for High Fives Nonprofit Foundation, Truckee, CA, USA
I have an L1 fracture and use a wheelchair. After my accident, it felt my life was over. Everything I loved was taken away from me. I know this sounds dramatic, but I couldn't imagine living without access to the wilderness and mountains. I learned about High Fives through an internet search. Their website immediately filled me with stoke. It was amazing to watch adaptive athletes like me skiing, surfing, mountain biking, fishing and having a really good time. High Fives supported me financially for two years after my injury: covering expensive pilates-based physical therapy and equipment costs. Thanks to High Fives, I've made huge gains in my recovery, and can walk with crutches and braces for short distances. I also got strong enough to do triathlons. Recently, High Fives invited me on a surf trip with seven other adaptive athletes. It was an amazing experience. High Fives creates the excitement, the community, and the support athletes need after a traumatic, life-changing injury like a spinal cord fracture.
