Review for Institute for Collective Trauma and Growth, Santa Barbara, CA, USA
ICTG is doing vital work in a field of great importance. It's amazing to think how few resources have been available for religious organizations experiencing trauma, and heartening to know that, in significant part through the efforts of ICTG, many are beginning to recognize the need. This work is of great theological importance, as well--it participates critically in a growing movement toward a more embodied, less abstract Christianity. Kate Wiebe is an effective, articulate champion of both these purposes, and my community has benefited greatly from her abilities as an educator, advocate, and service provider.
Review for Institute for Collective Trauma and Growth, Santa Barbara, CA, USA
Kate Wiebe gave a tremendously helpful talk to our group of high school students, asking them to explore concrete ways that congregations' and individuals' lives are impacted by trauma. Especially in her encouragement to treat candidly issues of crisis and healing (and those, especially, in their bodily and psychological dimensions), she gave these young people many useful tools for thinking about how they process traumatic events and how they might help others through them. It was wonderfully encouraging to hear about ICTG's difficult but crucial work.
