Review for Bais Chana Women International Inc, Brooklyn, NY, USA
Everything changed after my first encounter at Bais Chana in 2005. After spending almost 6 hours (what felt like two minutes) with other women and the most candid Rabbi I had ever met, I had a burning excitement within. With openness and sensitivity, we had spoken about purpose, fear, sexuality, death, health, family, love and everything in between. I had wondered how I had been functioning all this time without having had these vital conversations. All I knew was that, for the first time, I felt empowered and alive as a woman and citizen of the world. Bais Chana is the only organization I know of today that addresses the genuine needs of today's woman, engaging them in important conversations that are all-too-often ignored. Bais Chana programs give women an aesthetic, engaging, warm and honest atmosphere in which to connect, celebrate and address real issues. The environment, activities and courses are carefully planned in a way that every one - regardless of background and affiliation - feels they are being spoken to. From all my years of involvement with Bais Chana, I have met hundreds of women, all whom report a heightened sense of purpose, understanding and happiness. The participants are diverse. The food is healthy and tasty. The accommodations are always beautiful and exciting. The lectures (or conversations) are always open and relevant. It has been five years since I sat as a student in Bais Chana. But it is not a thing of the past. Every single question answered and connection made has carried me through my life much as it has for the countless other women. Why? Because Bais Chana talks to women in a way they can't forget. At Bais Chana, I learned why I should be treasured as a women. I learned to better respect my parents...and myself. I learned how to bless my relationships. I learned how to LEARN. I was given the tools I didn't KNOW I needed - to function not just as a "normal" person but a better, more honest, intuitive and WHOLE person. At Bais Chana I learned not to settle for less. From myself and from the world. Bais Chana is proof that simply by addressing the core elements of existence, we can emerge more fulfilled, connected and fearless. Taking time out of our busy lives to give attention to everything that matters is an indescribably important gift. Imagine a world where more and more women had the opportunity to be heard, share their own voice and have access to all the beauty and purpose life has to offer. Imagine women could come together to attune themselves with truth in a down-to-earth, non-judgmental and totally engaging way. Imagine every woman coming alive. Just imagine.
More Feedback
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
My life as a wife and mother. The consciousness I gained through attending Bais Chana has given me strength to be a more happy, committed and educated wife and mom.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
I would create a way that every single woman knew it exists! It has always bothered me deeply that this gift is out there and there are still women who don't know about it. Also, I would make programs more often.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
I enjoyed and benefited from the freedom to do everything at my pace. Also, the personal attention from the teachers and counselors.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
All the educators and mentors are sincere, educated, worldly and warm. Most importantly, they are super down-to-earth...NEVER preachy!
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
With 10 million bucks, BC would reach a wider audience, advertise better, give scholarships and have programs more often! With 10 million bucks, Bais Chana would undoubtedly make women everywhere a true positive force!
Ways to make it better...
I wish there was more time to get access to the super-knowledgeable teachers/mentors.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
Promotion. While everyone involved does their job with word-of-mouth, BC's reach is nowhere where I think it should be. Also, people think Bais Chana is self-help program...but its really for anyone who enjoys learning and wants to change the world!
One thing I'd also say is that...
Through its emphasis on women's empowerment, Bais Chana is the key to uplifting and educating the world.
