My father and I roadtripped to South Dakota in the spring of 2016, and Windcross Conservancy was one of our many stops. It ended up being my favorite by far! Lucia, our tour guide, was very friendly and informative. We learned about the history of the Spanish Mustang breed and were able to meet many of the horses in the Windcross herd. I was even able to feeel a foal kick in a pregnant mare! After the walking tour portion, I got to help with a training session with two of the yearling horses. I learned so much invaluable information in that 2 hours that I'll surely never forget and will use far in the future as a veterinarian and horse owner.

Additionally, I fell so in love with the horses, people and Conservancy as a whole that I chose to come back this summer to volunteer. I've been here for seven weeks and will be here for another three. In my time, I've gotten to work with several of the horses, examine three placentas, learn even more about the breed and horses in general, and improve my public speaking skills on tours. I've made lifelong friends and memories I will NEVER forget.
