I am fortunate to have been brought up in a country where this life-saving treatment is the norm, where childbirth complications are automatically addressed and women need not suffer shame, rejection, and abandonment as a result of not having adequate medical aid after giving birth. I have been donating to four charities for a while now, but am now faced with my own financial problems and will have to stop my donations. However, I will continue to donate monthly to the Fistula Foundation because of the wonderful work they do to relieve the suffering of these women and because of the dedication of the doctors and nurses that work with them.
