In 2009 and 2010, I was involved in supporting surgery for a little Vietnamese boy that I encountered when I made a visit war sites from my days in 1967/68. The SmileTrain organization not only helped with obtaining VN Government approval to support the child, but interfaced with the family on what what transpiring. After a nutritional program to build up his strength and 4 separate surgeries to correct a cleft palate and lips, little Ming Duk now has beautiful smile and is for the first time in his life able to enter the local society without the "shame" the family had experienced before the surgery.
