I had a superb experience volunteering for the Roberto Clemente Health Clinic in Spring of 2017. As a new Registered Nurse on my first international volunteer trip, I wasn't sure what to expect. I truly love the community focus this clinic holds. They are very involved with the local public health clinic and their relationship opened a lot of opportunities for us. Their nutrition and gardening programs are very prevention focused- something I feel Canadian healthcare could learn from. This expereince would be superb for someone focusing on public health, prevention, and teaching. We did a few skills, but could have had more opportunities for direct clinical patient care if our Spanish was stronger. In saying this, the clinic was great in accomodating our skills and finding projects for us to assist with. Ronnie, our volunteer coordinator was lovely! Was super at answering questions, was fun, and made us feel very welcomed. I will always remember Roberto Clemente Clinic and the great people involved in the community!
