Review for India Development and Relief Fund (IDRF), N Bethesda, MD, USA
I am a resident of the DC Metro area for more than 4 decades and I have travelled to India 20 times, visiting 18 states all across India. During the post-Emergency period, I visited many projects supported by India Relief Fund. Those visits were quite insightful- in terms of understanding the need for development at the grassroots level. Hence I continued my journey visiting projects supported by India Development and Relief Fund (IDRF), which was established in 1988
India has been an unfortunate country where natural disasters, excessive rains, floods or no rain sometimes, earthquake etc. fall on people who must be moved somewhere in safety. They need help so we formed this NGO named IDRF, when my husband took early retirement from the World Bank. We will be celebrating 3 decades of volunteer work and feel we have gained more than what we have given to India land of our birth-our mother land.
I strongly feel to live a purposeful life is innate in human nature. We need to listen to our inner voice. We have benefitted from people’s kindness and cooperation and have learned about other SEVA organizations in India like Arpana near New Delhi. Our partner NGOs are motivated to guide us.
