Review for Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue, San Jose, CA, USA
I just LOVE this organization. Heard about them through my avian vet, Medical Center for Birds in Oakley CA, and found them on the web about a year and half ago. I have taken in several of their birds. The pictures I attached are some of the birds I've taken in. Mickaboo has very high standards for care and placement of birds that in many cases have been through traumatic abuse, neglect, or loss. They require adopters to take a free bird-care class, have a one-on-one interview and helpful home visit from volunteers so people know what they are getting into and understand how to care for these sensitive, intelligent, long-lived beings. It's all about making the adoption successful. The organization raises and spends thousands of dollars for veterinary care for these birds that are surrendered by owners, left at city and county animal shelters, or confiscated by animal control officers from horrific situations, and turned over to Mickaboo for help. They have hundreds of birds in family foster care awaiting homes. What a great cause! When you see all the adoptable birds on their website, your heart aches for these beautiful birds to find their forever homes. Also makes you dearly wish people would stop rampant breeding and pet-store sales. If only the pet stores and breeders would pause to think about the suffering, and send people to adopt the birds that have been sold to unprepared "parronts" and then let down!
