I led an alternative service break trip to Forest Animal Rescue just last week with ten other University of Kentucky students and faculty. Not entirely sure of what kind of work we would be doing when we first arrived on site, our team was surprised to learn that we would be building the beginnings of a new tiger enclosure. The work was exceedingly difficult, but knowing that our efforts were going to positively impact the lives of tigers that recently arrived to FAR was all the motivation that we needed. While it is heartwrenching to hear the horrific circumstances these animals experienced prior to being rescued by FAR, witnessing the passion that Kurt and Lisa have for providing them with the best possible life that they can is indescribable. Forest Animal Rescue is by far one of the most impactful nonprofits I have been able to play a role in, and I look forward to contributing to their organization for the rest of my life.
