Review for Critter Camp Exotic Pet Sanctuary, German Valley, IL, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I have supported Critter Camp Exotic Pet Sanctuary with a humble monthly donation since 2015. Critter Camp is a totally unique “no kill” sanctuary that takes in species no other sanctuary will. I’ve talked about the wonderful care they give all the animals before but today I’d like to tell readers about how much I admire how they handle donations and their supporters. Not only do they treat and thank their supporters as individuals (how many do that?!), but they make it so easy to donate by allowing smaller monthly donations (you never miss it) instead of making you try to come up with an annual sponsorship lump sum. Being a smaller, family owned and run sanctuary, you also have the comfort and satisfaction of knowing your donation is really going towards the care of the animals and not being absorbed by management salaries, administration overheads and promotional costs. For those who may be nervous about sending money, Critter Camp also accepts donations of animal feed and enrichment goods via an online wish list (link in their e-newsletter). Anyone concerned about the environment the animals are kept in need only look at the regular weekly videos the founder and manageress Beth Randall uploads onto YouTube showing the various critters playing indoors in clean areas filled with plenty of stimulating toys. I am proud to support a family who act on their convictions and offer a safe, comfortable, happy home for life to creatures who would otherwise have nowhere else to go.

Review for Critter Camp Exotic Pet Sanctuary, German Valley, IL, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Although I live in Australia, I’ve known and regularly chat online with Critter Camp’s founder and manageress, Beth Randall, since 2009. Over the years, I have developed a profound admiration and respect for Critter Camp's ethics and activities. So much so, that I sponsor one of their animals even though I usually pay an extra premium due to the exchange rate. Critter Camp takes in and cares for species that no-one else seems to have the time, space or knowledge to care for - the exotics. I've always had a soft spot for defenders of the "under dog" or, in this case, the under chinchilla, ferret, fox, guinea pig, gerbil, mink, parrot, tortoise, rabbit... well, you get the idea. The fact that many of the animals Critter Camp takes in are also geriatric and/or have health and behavior issues due to previous neglect, abuse or multiple rehomings, makes me even prouder of their efforts to provide these animals with a comfortable home for life. Each animal receives the highest standard of care based on their individual needs. Beth researches each species and does her very best to provide a diet, housing, companionship and enrichment which will optimize each animal’s health and wellbeing. Considering how many different species Critter Camp cares for, this is a considerable knowledge base which Beth is also happy to share with the public through school talks and online forums. Can’t praise this genuine “sanctuary” and the humans who run it highly enough.... Sabina W.
