I have supported OURF for over 5 years. I have met Gary Shapiro and his compassion for Orangutans, the Indonesian people and their environment is obvious. This organization works to educate young locals to become future protectors of the area. They also frequently collaborate with other organizations dedicated to the protection of orangutans.
I highly recommend this nonprofit!

I've had the pleasure of meeting Gary Shapiro, the President of Orang Utan Republik, on a few occasions. Gary's passion for helping both orangutans and the people and ecology of Indonesia are beyond compare. Orang Utan Republik takes a educational approach to help save the area, focusing on empowering the young people in the region to protect their home and all that inhabit it. This meshes well with some of their partner organizations who focus more directly on the animals in peril. This helps to establish both short and long term goals for the small organizations attempting to save all of the amazing life in Borneo and Sumatra.
