I am a privileged team member at Save the Horses. I serve among amazing, dedicated and big hearted people, all drawn together by the desire to help animals that would be otherwise left to die. This organization is so much bigger than saving just horses. Pigs, chickens, turkeys, goats, cows, they all matter. Every single life matters and these animals are brought to safety and loved, sometimes for the first time in their lives. This isn’t about playing with horses and going riding, it’s about serving at the pleasure of the rescues. You can’t rush a halter on a horse and some times you sit there in the dirt waiting for an animal to come to you because it’s what they need. It isn’t glamorous. You scoop poop and scrub stalls and carry water. You level floors and clean equipment because it needs to be done and at the end of the shift you are relaxed and fulfilled. I think about my next visit everyday. Save the horses is an organization that deserves every penny that is donated and more. I truly believe that as the volunteers work to rehab the animals, the animals are rehabbing the volunteers just as well.
