Review for Student Advocacy, Elmsford, NY, USA
Many of the youth who come to my shelter have long-term conflicts at home. We work hard to tease out all the factors contributing to the struggles. Not surprising, school related problems are often a major factor. Student Advocacy is made up of dedicated and intellent attorneys and advocates who get the student record, work to understand the complexities of the family and the academic struggle. They help parents (ususlly mothers, often single mothers with a list of their own problems) understand the child better and help them without blame get the right services so their child can succeed. They produce amazing results. They form bonds with youth and families that last far beyond graduation. They are a life saving tool for many. I could not have the success we have in the shelter without their work.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
many ways. Students who were not going to school, started attending. Students deems "uneducable" were placed in the right setting and graduated! Mothers who were falling apart emotionally began to parent their children effectively.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
give them more money to hire more attorneys to help more families. the need is greater in the community than they can presently satisfy.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
the success i have seem for the families we served together.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
intellegent, kind, competent, responsive.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
produce mush higher gradution rates for the youth of our county.
Ways to make it better...
i could have retained an advocate for my weekly case conference, but that funding, unfortunately went away with the massive budget reductions we were all forced to make.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
limited funds to do all the work that needs to be done for the families in our county.
One thing I'd also say is that...
i am so happy to marginally affiliated with such a high caliber organization.
