Review for Pacific Crest Youth Arts Organization, Diamond Bar, CA, USA

Rating: 4 stars

This organization promotes the general enrichment of the members by offering the opportunity to participate in physically/ mentally demanding competitive marching/music/dance activities. I personally benefited by learning to function in large groups as a performer and as a leader. This organization promotes the development of high school and college aged performers to a level of maturity and sophistication beyond that of their peers. I toured the western U.S. with the drum and bugle corps for five years while still attending college. I learned the discipline, personal responsibility, and sense of duty I use at work today every day at in my career. My experience inside and outside of this organization revealed no "shady business" and a conservative outlook on the group's growth and development.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

My personal work ethic, judgement, and problem solving abilities.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

... constantly remind myself that I am doing this for the paying members... not for the volunteers or the instructional staff.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The opportunity to meet people like me. People who take responsibility for their actions and work hard to achieve their personal goals.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Mostly very dedicated and focused on the development of the performers. Though rare, there appeared to be some instructors who were using this performing arts group as a vehicle to advance their egos.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Purchase equipment for the performers on a more regular basis. I would like to see them invest that and use it as a regular source of income to offset the membership fees paid by the performers.

Ways to make it better...

... my uniforms fit properly.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Attracting a level of performer which will allow the group to be competitive.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2001
