Review for Multidisciplinary Association For Psychedelic Studies (MAPS), San Jose, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I support MAPS because I'm a 30yr old Iraq and Hurricane Katrina veteran. I've been decorated for my service and recieved an honorable discharge. The Dept. of Veterans Affairs has given me a 100% disability rating for PTSD. I've been in cognitive behavioral therapy for almost six years now. I get so afraid of experiencing the fear of some sessions it discourages me from going or being able to go as deeply into it. It will leave me fatigued for day. I have to take an hour and a half train ride to/from most of my appointments, which for someone who's constantly checking people's hands subconsciously and a problem with turning off that fight or flight feeling.. isn't exactly cohesive for therapy sessions.

I suffer from night terrors, most of the symptoms of PTSD, Major Depressive Disorder, Generalized Panic Disorcder, etc..

I've had experience with MDMA while visiting friends while on leave visiting friends at Brown and I can definitely see how a properly conducted and distributed amount of MDMA would help myself and other veterans like me.

They've tried 6 or 7 different SSRI's and SNRI's and nothing has helped. Wellbutrin, Mirtzapine, trazadone, lorazepam, Ativan, klonopin.. I've had to be perscribed stomach medications and have had to deal with side effects of all these medications. My medicine cabinet looks like a pharmacy. Friendships and relationships in my life have suffered. medical marijuana has finally helped me actually get some sleep sometimes and I have a license for it. I can't admit that to the VA or my doctor though because I would lose my benefits and basically end up homeless.

These studies, all thevwork that MAPS is doing is helping my brothers and sisters-in-arms and will hopefully (if the US Government and pharmaceutical companies allow) will eventually help me. I'm holding on to hope they will succeed but I am broken and online one voice. If anyone can help them or their research please do.

I'd like to help any way I can.

Chris.
