My dog, Cody, and I have been volunteers with PHS for 3 years as part of the Paws and Tales program. We work at libraries, medical clinics, schools, colleges and county health clinics.
Every time I see children reading their hearts out to the dog teams, people waiting for medical procedures being comforted by the dogs, children previously afraid of dogs sitting close and loving them and children in therapy holding "their dog" as they work I am awed by the gift these animals provide people by their love, friendship and acceptance.
PHS enables this all to happen not only by caring for all the animals coming to them but also making the connections between these incredible animals and the community.
The world needs more of these interactions!
